Ignition interlock

Installation and service.

An ignition interlock — the breathalyzer installed in your vehicle. You lease the unit from LifeSafer or RoadGuard. That fee is with them. Mother’s is your service department: installation, calibration, recalibration, and removal. We do not schedule the appointment.

Done Once, Done Right

You lease the device from them.

An ignition interlock is a breath-alcohol device wired to the vehicle so the engine starts only after a passed test. You lease it from LifeSafer or RoadGuard. The lease is a separate fee you have with them. The work comes here because you select us.

The handset stays with the vehicle. It is not a handheld unit you take home. The manufacturer owns the device. This shop does the work on it based on you selecting us.

Mother’s is your service department.

Make sure to select Mother’s Window Tint Austin as your service provider.

We install the unit, calibrate it, recalibrate it on the later visits, and remove it when they authorize removal. Request this shop, 6025 N Interstate Hwy 35, Austin, as the service location, because you select us. We do not provide the device, and we do not schedule the appointment. We treat your vehicle like it’s our baby.

Recalibration

Calibration is done when the interlock is installed. Recalibration is the later service visit. It keeps the interlock accurate and sends the saved tests to the manufacturer. It is not a new install, and it is not the lease. You still pay LifeSafer or RoadGuard for the device. RoadGuard describes the visit as every 30 to 60 days. The handset warns before the date. They set that date. We do the work when they send the vehicle here.

  1. Confirm the vehicle and the account.
  2. Download the log: breath tests, starts, missed or failed tests, and power loss.
  3. That log goes to the manufacturer, which reports it as the program requires.
  4. Note the odometer.
  5. Check the wiring and look for tampering.
  6. Calibrate the sensor so the next readings stay accurate.
  7. The next service date is set with the manufacturer. RoadGuard says the visit is usually about 20 minutes.

If the vehicle is not brought in by the due date, the handset starts a countdown. After that it locks out and the engine will not start until the unit is serviced. A missed visit is also reported.
